With news of the game constantly spilling out in Japan, it was only a matter of time before Square Enix announced an overseas release for Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.
Kingdom Hearts 3D, developed exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS, is the latest title in Square Enix’s and Disney’s Kingdom Hearts series. The series is best known for mixing well-known Disney characters and worlds with characters from Square Enix’s Final Fantasy franchise, while also weaving a tale all its own.
Serving as “the opening chapter of the final conflict,” Kingdom Hearts 3D sees series familiars Sora and Riku undergoing a Mark of Mastery exam in order to become Keyblade Masters. Their adventures will take them to many worlds, including locales based on The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Tron: Legacy, Pinnochio, and The Three Musketeers, as well as series-exclusive worlds such as Destiny Islands and Traverse Town. Along with these new worlds, the gameplay has been changed to be more exhilarating and acrobatic.
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance is set for release for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan in March of 2012, with a release in North America and Europe following later in the year. The official website for the game can be found here.
